My friend told me the computer breakdown was due to my carelessness. We are expected to care for our gadgets just like we do for ourselves so they can last longer.

I would say both. Computers make our lives easier because it makes us able to do things faster. For example, before the advent of the computer, people couldn’t send electronic emails, they had to type letters on typewriters and send them by post or by hand to the receiver. It has made normally herculean tasks easier for humans to carry out. It has also made our lives complex because due to the introduction of numerous software, people have to continuously learn and upgrade themselves. To be a secretary or clerk today, employers expect you to be proficient in the use of computers and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, or Powerpoint.
